She spent nine years as a social worker and twenty years in clinical research, focusing on domestic violence, motherhood, sexuality, ethnography, and cultural diversity. Karen N. Allen , MSW, LCSW, PhD, is the Social Work Program Director at Oakland University. She has spent eighteen years in the field as a caseworker and director of social work at various institutions.
