Kate Bradbury gives the account of her time restoring a paved and decked garden after a move to Brighton, and attempting unsuccessfully to get her neighbours to do the same so as not to threaten wildlife. As events proceed to take Bradbury away from Brighton and the project, she considers in further depth how human development destabilises small ecosystems.
